BUXTON CONSERVANCY

In 2011, Philip and Jane Buxton passed away and bequeathed their 47 acre wooded property to Brecknock Township to be used by the Township for recreational purposes. Through the efforts of numerous volunteers the Buxton Conservancy is now open for all to enjoy. Our special appreciation goes to the BERKS COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION and the Russell L. Hiller Charitable Trust Fund for the grant awarded to the Township in December 2013 for supporting the development of this passive recreation area for the enjoyment of Governor Mifflin area residents.

On the cool but beautiful Saturday morning of April 25, 2015 the Buxton Conservancy was opened to the public. Over 70 local residents and friends joined Jane Buxton’s sister Ruth Fooskas in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Many hours were spent in the development of the Conservancy to bring this gem to life for the enjoyment of area residents for many years to come. Many thanks to the Berks Conservancy, the Horse-Shoe Trail Conservancy, the Township road crew, the Township Supervisors and staff, the Recreation Board members, local residents and the many Boy Scouts from Troop 241, their families and friends. At the Conservancy Opening, many of the Scouts from Troop 241 were honored for their hard work doing
their Eagle Scout projects on the property. We sincerely thank the Scouts (and family) and Scoutmasters for their invaluable support of this project.
